Human.tech Launches Clean SDK for Private, Compliant Web3 Apps

New Toolkit Brings Identity Verification and Sanctions Screening to Aztec

Human.tech has introduced the Clean SDK, a developer toolkit designed to integrate privacy-preserving identity verification and sanctions screening into Web3 applications. Released on July 21, 2026, the toolkit debuted alongside Aztec’s v5 network upgrade and was accompanied by the launch of Shield, the first live application built using the new framework.

The company said the Clean SDK enables developers to verify that users are legitimate individuals and that digital assets comply with sanctions requirements without collecting or storing personally identifiable information. Built specifically for the Aztec privacy-focused blockchain, the toolkit combines identity verification, sanctions compliance, and zero-knowledge proof infrastructure into a single package, reducing the need for developers to build these components independently.

Human.tech described the release as an effort to address a longstanding challenge in decentralized finance, where privacy technologies can inadvertently conceal illicit activity while traditional compliance tools often require users to surrender personal information. The Clean SDK is designed to allow applications to verify both user legitimacy and the origin of funds while preserving wallet anonymity through zero-knowledge cryptography.

Three Verification Layers Enhance Compliance

The toolkit incorporates three separate verification mechanisms, each targeting a different compliance requirement. Proof of Innocence screens cryptocurrency wallets and deposited assets against 23 sanctions databases when funds are deposited and repeats the verification process when assets are withdrawn, ensuring wallets undergo continuous compliance checks throughout the transaction lifecycle.

Proof of Personhood verifies that each account represents a single real individual through Human Passport, providing lightweight identity validation without revealing personal information. Meanwhile, Proof of Clean Hands introduces an additional verification layer for higher-value transactions by utilizing zero-knowledge government-issued identity credentials to strengthen regulatory assurance while maintaining user privacy.

Each verification process generates a cryptographic proof rather than exposing identity information on-chain. Human.tech explained that user identity data remains encrypted and stored off-chain. The company also indicated that the platform includes a controlled disclosure mechanism intended to provide access to information only in response to legitimate legal requests.

Shield Demonstrates Practical Use Case

Shield, the first application built on the Clean SDK, enables users and autonomous artificial intelligence agents to transfer assets between Ethereum and Aztec while verifying that every transaction originates from a sanctioned-screened wallet belonging to a unique individual without revealing personal identities.

The cross-chain bridge applies sanctions screening at both the entry and exit points of each transaction, helping maintain compliance throughout the transfer process. By combining privacy-preserving verification with blockchain interoperability, Shield seeks to provide a practical example of how regulatory requirements and user confidentiality can coexist within decentralized applications.

Security firm Nethermind independently audited Shield’s smart contracts in May 2026. Human.tech reported that all issues identified during the audit had been addressed before the public launch, strengthening confidence in the platform’s security framework.

Co-founder Shady El Damaty stated that privacy without accountability could facilitate abuse, while accountability without privacy risked creating surveillance. He explained that the Clean SDK was developed to eliminate that tradeoff by allowing applications to preserve confidentiality while satisfying compliance requirements. He also described Shield as the first step toward a broader ecosystem of applications that would leverage the same privacy-preserving infrastructure.

Expanding Opportunities for Institutional Web3 Adoption

Human.tech believes the Clean SDK will support a wide range of blockchain applications, including decentralized finance platforms, autonomous AI agents, and institutional financial services that require programmable privacy alongside regulatory compliance.

By combining privacy-preserving identity verification, continuous sanctions screening, and zero-knowledge proofs into a unified development toolkit, Human.tech aims to lower barriers for developers while encouraging broader institutional participation in privacy-focused blockchain ecosystems.

Although the Shield audit covered the application’s smart contracts, the company noted that developers integrating the SDK into their own applications should continue conducting independent security reviews to ensure the safety and reliability of their individual implementations.
