Ripple Prime is accelerating its push into institutional finance by positioning itself as a key infrastructure provider for blockchain-powered capital markets, with XRP taking on an expanded role as institutional collateral. The company is focusing on the emerging concept of an always-on financial system, where trading, settlement, and collateral management operate continuously rather than within traditional market hours.
During an interview with Markets Media, Mike Higgins, Business Development and Client Director at Ripple Prime, indicated that the recent slowdown in cryptocurrency markets should not be interpreted as declining adoption of digital assets. Instead, he suggested that financial institutions worldwide are steadily embracing blockchain technology as they transition toward continuous trading and settlement models. According to Higgins, tokenized assets, stablecoins, and blockchain networks are increasingly becoming integral components of modern financial infrastructure rather than speculative investment vehicles.
The company’s institutional expansion has gained momentum following Ripple’s acquisition of prime brokerage firm Hidden Road, which has since been rebranded as Ripple Prime. The acquisition combines Hidden Road’s institutional brokerage expertise with Ripple’s blockchain technology, enterprise relationships, and financial resources, significantly strengthening the firm’s ability to serve institutional clients.
Higgins stated that the strategy has already generated measurable results. He indicated that Ripple Prime’s revenues have tripled since the acquisition while Ripple’s stronger balance sheet has substantially increased the firm’s lending capacity. The company also expects deeper integration with RLUSD, Ripple’s U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin designed to comply with the GENIUS Act, and the XRP Ledger to improve settlement efficiency, reduce transaction costs, and enhance capital utilization across institutional markets.
XRP Gains New Role as Institutional Collateral
A central element of Ripple Prime’s strategy is transforming XRP from a passive digital asset into institutional-grade collateral that can be used to unlock financing while preserving market exposure.
According to market analyst Chad Steingraber, Ripple Prime has introduced XRP-backed depository receipts that enable institutions to pledge XRP as collateral, secure U.S. dollar financing, and participate in CME futures trading without liquidating their XRP holdings. This structure allows institutional investors to retain exposure to the cryptocurrency while accessing liquidity, potentially avoiding taxable disposal events and deploying capital more efficiently across investment strategies.
Beyond XRP, Ripple Prime supports a diversified collateral framework that includes U.S. Treasuries, fiat currencies, gold, Bitcoin, XRP, and BlackRock money market funds. The platform is designed to provide institutions with a unified collateral management system capable of supporting both traditional financial assets and digital assets within a single operational framework.
Regulatory Momentum Supports Institutional Adoption
The company’s latest initiatives coincide with growing optimism surrounding the U.S. regulatory environment for digital assets. Reports indicating that the White House has addressed a significant obstacle related to the proposed CLARITY Act have strengthened market expectations that clearer regulatory guidelines could encourage broader institutional participation in the digital asset sector.
Ripple Prime’s multi-asset collateral platform, combined with its integration into Ripple’s broader blockchain ecosystem, is intended to support continuous trading, settlement, and liquidity management across global financial markets.
The company’s strategy reflects a broader trend toward integrating blockchain infrastructure into institutional finance as traditional markets increasingly explore tokenization and digital settlement solutions.
By combining institutional prime brokerage services, blockchain infrastructure, XRP-backed financing, RLUSD integration, and support for multiple collateral types, Ripple Prime is positioning XRP and the XRP Ledger as foundational components of the next generation of global capital markets operating on a 24/7 basis.
