This unique initiative aims to offer participants an enriched digital experience alongside the traditional pilgrimage, bridging the gap between age-old rituals and modern innovation.
NFTs are distinctive digital assets stored on a secure blockchain network. Unlike interchangeable cryptocurrencies, each NFT is unique and can represent digital artwork, collectibles, or special event access. For the Maha Kumbh, these tokens will serve as digital collectibles and personalized credentials tied to the event, offering attendees a novel way to engage with the festival.
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has collaborated with blockchain firm Chaincode Consulting to introduce NFTs as part of the Maha Kumbh experience. Through this partnership, devotees and visitors can connect with the event via a digital platform, gaining access to exclusive items such as collectible images, virtual tickets, and customized experiences. The NFTs will be secured on the Polygon blockchain, ensuring their safety and authenticity.
In addition to collectible assets, the platform will feature interactive quizzes about Indian mythology and the festival’s spiritual significance. This digital approach enables global participation, allowing individuals from around the world to experience the Maha Kumbh even if they cannot attend in person.
Enhancing Pilgrim Experience with AI
The 2025 event is also set to employ AI-driven navigation tools to assist pilgrims in navigating the vast Mela grounds. The Kumbh Mela mobile app will provide directions to campsites and suggest optimal routes, streamlining the on-ground experience for attendees. These technological enhancements aim to make the pilgrimage more accessible and hassle-free for millions of visitors.
To ensure the safety and security of attendees, advanced surveillance technologies will be deployed. Over 2,750 AI-powered CCTV cameras will monitor the event grounds, providing real-time crowd tracking. Systems equipped with facial and number plate recognition will enable authorities to efficiently manage security and alleviate congestion in densely populated areas.
Underwater Drones and Disaster Management
For the first time, underwater drones will be employed to monitor the Triveni Sangam, the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. These drones, equipped with sophisticated imaging capabilities, will relay live data to a central command center, enhancing the safety of those engaging in ritualistic activities in the water.
Additionally, drone-based systems for disaster management will be introduced, ensuring quick response times in emergencies. These measures aim to provide a secure and well-organized environment for pilgrims, reinforcing the event’s commitment to safety and efficiency.
