Midnight Network, a privacy-oriented blockchain built on the Cardano infrastructure, has announced an expansive airdrop campaign known as the Glacier Drop. This multi-phase event aims to distribute NIGHT tokens to millions of cryptocurrency holders across major networks including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and Cardano. The initiative seeks to address longstanding issues of centralization and speculative volatility in token distribution.
Airdrop Designed for Fairness and Inclusion
The Glacier Drop is part of a broader strategy to democratize access to NIGHT tokens by allocating up to the entire supply to users holding select cryptocurrencies. Midnight’s approach moves away from the typical tokenomics model, which often favors early investors and internal stakeholders. Instead, it aims to ensure broader community ownership and participation, enhancing decentralization and minimizing short-term market instability.
The airdrop will target users who held more than $100 worth of supported cryptocurrencies as of the snapshot taken on June 11. These include ADA, BTC, ETH, XRP, SOL, BNB, AVAX, and BAT. According to the distribution plan, 50% of the 24 billion NIGHT tokens allocated for the event will go to Cardano ADA holders. Bitcoin holders will receive 20%, while the remaining 30% will be shared among participants from other supported chains. This allocation structure reflects Midnight’s goal of promoting cross-chain collaboration and user inclusivity across different blockchain communities.
Phased Distribution with Lock-In Mechanism
The NIGHT tokens claimed during the Glacier Drop will not be available for immediate transfer or trading. Instead, they will be locked in a redemption smart contract on the Cardano network and distributed through a vesting schedule. Participants will receive 25% of their tokens every 90 days over a total period of 360 days. This delayed release is intended to discourage rapid sell-offs and promote sustained user engagement within the network.

Following the Glacier Drop, Midnight Network will initiate a second phase known as the Scavenger Mine. During this stage, users can earn additional NIGHT tokens by contributing computational power to support the network’s operations. A final stage, dubbed Lost-and-Found, will allow eligible users to claim unclaimed tokens. Any remaining tokens after this grace period will be redirected to the protocol’s on-chain treasury, ensuring efficient allocation of unclaimed assets.
Privacy Innovation and Dual-Token Design
The privacy framework of Midnight Network is underpinned by zero-knowledge proof (ZKP) technology. This cryptographic method allows users to selectively disclose wallet or transaction data without exposing sensitive information to unauthorized entities. As demand for privacy in blockchain applications grows, this feature positions Midnight as a strong contender in the space of privacy-focused networks.
Midnight’s tokenomics is further distinguished by a dual-token model. In addition to the governance-oriented NIGHT token, the network will employ a secondary token named DUST for transaction execution. Looking Ahead: Testnet to Mainnet Transition
Currently operating on testnet, Midnight Network intends to launch its mainnet 90 days after the conclusion of the Glacier Drop.
