Open Campus, a decentralized education protocol, has announced the receipt of grant funding from the Arbitrum Foundation to support the forthcoming launch of EDU Chain. This blockchain initiative is set to be the first Layer 3 (L3) blockchain specifically designed for educational purposes.
EDU Chain: Pioneering Layer 3 Blockchain for Education
Through the Arbitrum Foundation grant, Open Campus aims to bolster the Arbitrum Ambassador Program with educational content initiatives and participation in hackathon competitions. The grant will incentivize developers to create decentralized applications (dapps) for the EDU Chain, including educational games. Open Campus plans to leverage its extensive network of over 60 education and Web3 partner companies, which collectively reach 20 million learners. The EDU Foundation is constructing the EDU Chain as an Arbitrum Orbit Stack L3 Rollup. This design enables EDU Chain transactions to settle on Arbitrum’s Layer 2 (L2) scaling solution for Ethereum. Consequently, it will offer Ethereum-level security with enhanced scalability, thanks to faster and cheaper transactions.

According to L2Beats data, Arbitrum currently holds the highest Total Value Locked (TVL) among all L2 networks, approximately $17.15 billion, ranking it the fifth largest blockchain protocol behind Solana, Binance Smart Chain, Tron, and Ethereum.
