Engr. Datong, Dominic Gwaman, the Director-General of Plateau State Information and Communications Technology Development Agency (PITCDA), highlighted Nigeria’s position as the leading digital economy sector in Africa. He emphasized the significance of the National Blockchain Policy as a pioneering step towards blockchain adoption in the country. The collaboration with Algorand Foundation is expected to materialize in real-world use cases, contributing to enhanced efficiency, transparency, and access to public services, while simultaneously creating new job opportunities.
Algorand Blockchain: A Catalyst for Nationwide Digital Wallet Plan
The Algorand blockchain serves as the foundation for the federal government’s nationwide digital wallet initiative, facilitating the international commercialization of intellectual property (IP) forms. Innovative Engagement: Algorand’s Contribution to the Arts
Beyond technological advancements, the Algorand Foundation is extending its support to the arts community in Plateau State. The upcoming Incredible Music Festival, scheduled from February 22-24, 2024, in Jos, Plateau State, will feature an NFT workshop conducted by Algorand Foundation. The workshop aims to educate creatives on transforming their creations into NFTs and effectively marketing them on Web3 platforms, bridging the gap between technology and the creative industry.

Plateau State: A Nexus for Development and Collaboration
Plateau State, Nigeria’s 12th largest state, situated at the nation’s center, becomes a focal point for this collaborative initiative. Boasting a population of approximately 4.2 million residents, the state is recognized for its mild weather conditions, occasionally reaching as low as 10 degrees Celsius.
According to Algorand Foundation, the organization has made significant investments in Nigeria’s software developer education since 2021, with over 500 software developers trained in 2023 alone. Notably, more than 10% of the developers trained in 2023 hail from Plateau State. Events organized by the Foundation in December 2023, including a workshop and a policy dinner, saw the active participation of 50 software developers and senior members of the Plateau State Government.

Ben Onuoha, the Country Head for Nigeria at Algorand Foundation, expressed excitement about the collaboration, emphasizing the focus on capacity development for software developers and the development of real-world use cases.
