In a significant development for the blockchain ecosystem, Space and Time, a decentralized data platform backed by Microsoft, has officially launched its public and permissionless mainnet. Developed by MakeInfinite Labs, the network introduces a zero-knowledge (ZK)-proof-based data infrastructure designed to reshape how decentralized applications interact with onchain, crosschain, and offchain data sources.
This launch marks a major milestone in enhancing data security and verifiability across blockchain networks. The platform’s novel approach aims to provide developers with the ability to query large datasets using cryptographic proofs, paving the way for a more secure and decentralized Web3 environment.
Transforming Data Access with Zero-Knowledge Technology
At the center of Space and Time’s infrastructure is its proprietary Proof of SQL engine—a sub-second ZK coprocessor that generates cryptographic proofs for each query made to the database. This innovation enables smart contracts to securely request and verify information from both blockchain-based and external data sources without compromising trust or integrity.
The network is designed to overcome a common challenge faced by decentralized applications: the lack of a reliable and tamper-proof method to access and verify offchain or crosschain data. The platform’s co-founder emphasized that before this system, decentralized apps were unable to query basic user or transaction data from a blockchain database without introducing risks related to manipulation or centralized control. Space and Time’s network also indexes data from major blockchains such as Ethereum and distributes this data through a decentralized validator framework. This allows developers to obtain structured data directly, while maintaining trustless verification.
