Ripple, a leading provider of digital asset infrastructure, has announced a significant partnership with Yonsei University in South Korea as part of its University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI) program. This collaboration marks the 58th global partnership for Ripple’s UBRI and the 12th within the Asia Pacific region, highlighting the company’s ongoing efforts to drive the global adoption and interoperability of digital assets through strategic collaborations with academic institutions.
The UBRI program, launched by Ripple in 2018, aims to foster innovation in blockchain technology by providing support, technical resources, and funding grants to universities worldwide. Since its inception, Ripple has committed over $60 million to the program, underlining its dedication to advancing research and education in the field of digital assets. The partnership with Yonsei University, one of South Korea’s most prestigious academic institutions, is set to further this mission by enabling groundbreaking research in various disciplines that are shaping the future of blockchain technology, including artificial intelligence, finance, information systems, and management.
As part of the multi-year collaboration, Yonsei University will lead initiatives that explore the intersections of blockchain technology with other cutting-edge fields. The grant provided by Ripple will not only support research activities but also facilitate the organization of hackathons and the establishment of an XRP Ledger (XRPL) validator at the university. An XRPL validator plays a critical role in enhancing the security and decentralization of the network by evaluating transaction proposals from a trusted set of validators known as the Unique Node List (UNL). By incorporating this technology into its infrastructure, Yonsei University will be able to offer practical learning experiences to its students and faculty, while also contributing to the credibility and neutrality of the XRPL by being part of its validator network.

Jun Kyung Auh, Associate Professor of Finance and Artificial Intelligence at Yonsei University, highlighted the importance of the grant from Ripple’s UBRI program. He pointed out that this partnership will enable the university to delve deeper into cutting-edge research areas and gain a more profound understanding of blockchain’s impact on industries such as finance and management. Yonsei University now joins an esteemed group of UBRI partners in the Asia Pacific region, including Korea University, which has been part of the program since its inception in 2018. Korea University has recently renewed its multi-year commitment to advancing blockchain education through UBRI and continues to run an active XRPL validator on its campus. Additionally, the university has allocated a portion of its funds to support other blockchain projects in the region, such as Professor Hyunok Oh of Hanyang University’s research in Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs) within the Security and Privacy Lab, which aims to pioneer practical applications of this technology.
The partnership with Yonsei University further solidifies Ripple’s commitment to fostering blockchain innovation and education on a global scale, particularly within the Asia Pacific region. Ripple’s dedication to the region was further demonstrated earlier this year when the company launched the XRP Ledger Japan and Korea Fund in June. This fund is aimed at supporting innovation on the XRPL in the Japanese and Korean markets through various initiatives, including corporate partnerships, developer grants, startup investments, and community growth activities.
