Open Standard Targets Video Integrity Verification

FleetFusion has unveiled SecureFusion, a new open industry standard designed to verify the integrity of commercial fleet video footage through the use of public blockchain technology. The initiative aims to enhance confidence in video evidence used in insurance claims, legal proceedings, and regulatory investigations involving commercial vehicles.

The company explained that the growing reliance on fleet video recordings has made footage a critical source of evidence in disputes, compliance reviews, and accident investigations. However, it noted that organizations and external stakeholders have historically lacked an independent method to confirm whether a video clip had been modified after being recorded and stored.

According to FleetFusion, SecureFusion addresses this challenge by creating a transparent verification framework that allows third parties to validate the authenticity of video files without depending on the original platform provider.

Blockchain-Based Audit Trail

The system operates by generating a SHA-256 cryptographic hash immediately after a video file is uploaded to a platform that complies with the SecureFusion standard. This unique digital fingerprint is then recorded on both the XRP Ledger and the Bitcoin blockchain through the Open Timestamps protocol.

By anchoring video hashes to public blockchain networks, SecureFusion creates a permanent and independently verifiable audit trail that can be used to determine whether footage has been altered after ingestion into a compliant platform.

FleetFusion stated that the process allows insurers, regulators, attorneys, and fleet operators to independently assess the integrity of video evidence. The company emphasized that verification can be completed without requiring access to the original telematics or video service provider.

To support this objective, SecureFusion includes a public verification portal. Users can upload a video hash through a web browser and conduct the verification process locally, eliminating the need to transmit the underlying video file. This approach is intended to enhance privacy while maintaining transparency and trust.

Industry-Wide Adoption a Key Objective

FleetFusion is releasing SecureFusion as an open framework that can be implemented across the transportation ecosystem. The company said the standard is designed for adoption by telematics providers, camera manufacturers, insurers, and fleet management platforms.

Company executives stressed that openness is central to the effectiveness of the initiative. They indicated that a verification standard accessible to all participants and independent of any single vendor could provide a stronger foundation for legal and regulatory acceptance.

The framework has been introduced as an open industry standard, enabling organizations across the fleet technology sector to adopt a common method for validating video integrity without requiring permission from a centralized authority.

Future Enhancements Planned

While SecureFusion can confirm whether footage has been modified after it enters a compliant platform, FleetFusion acknowledged that the current version does not verify whether the original recording itself is authentic.

The company revealed that future versions of the standard are expected to incorporate hardware-level signing capabilities within camera devices, providing an additional layer of assurance regarding the authenticity of original video capture.

By combining blockchain-based timestamping with open verification tools, FleetFusion aims to establish a more trusted framework for handling commercial fleet video evidence, potentially improving confidence among insurers, regulators, legal professionals, and fleet operators.
