Circle Expands Stablecoin Payments With Tazapay Deal

Circle is broadening its global payments strategy through a combination of new Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) functionality and an agreement to acquire cross-border payments company Tazapay. The moves underline Circle’s push to make stablecoins more practical for businesses, payment providers and financial institutions operating across international markets.

Circle Adds Upfront Fees to CCTP Transfers

Circle recently introduced support for upfront fee payments for CCTP Fast Transfers, allowing developers to calculate and collect transfer-related fees separately instead of deducting them from the USDC being transferred. The change is designed to make cross-chain transactions easier for users to understand and for developers to integrate into payment applications.

Under the updated model, users can receive the expected amount of USDC while fees are handled independently. Developers can also present a single bundled quote that includes the transfer cost, creating a more predictable payment experience.

CCTP uses Circle’s native burn-and-mint mechanism to transfer USDC between supported blockchain networks without relying on traditional wrapped-token structures. The infrastructure is intended to improve the movement of USDC across ecosystems while reducing friction for applications that require cross-chain liquidity.

The upfront-fee functionality could make CCTP more useful for wallets, payment applications and decentralized finance platforms by giving users clearer visibility into the amount transferred and the associated costs.

The development is particularly relevant as stablecoins increasingly move beyond cryptocurrency trading and into payments, settlement and other financial applications. More transparent fee handling can help developers build payment flows where the amount received by the recipient is known before a transaction is initiated.

Circle Moves Deeper Into Global Payments

Circle’s strategy is also expanding through its agreement to acquire Tazapay, a Singapore-based B2B cross-border payments infrastructure company. The proposed acquisition would bring Tazapay’s network of more than 60 banking and fintech partners and payout infrastructure covering more than 100 markets into Circle’s broader payments ecosystem.

Tazapay has developed infrastructure connecting businesses to international payment and settlement routes, with operations spanning multiple markets across Asia-Pacific and other regions. The company reported more than $25 billion in annualized payment volume as of July 31, 2026, while approximately 60% of its transaction volume already involved stablecoins.

By combining Tazapay’s local payout rails and banking relationships with Circle’s USDC infrastructure, the transaction could expand the reach of stablecoin-powered payments for businesses moving money across borders.

The acquisition would also strengthen Circle’s ability to connect digital-dollar liquidity with traditional financial infrastructure. Tazapay’s existing relationships could provide additional access to local payment channels, while Circle could contribute its stablecoin technology and broader payments network.

What the Tazapay Acquisition Means

Circle and Tazapay have already worked together, with Tazapay serving as an early design partner for Circle Payments Network. The proposed acquisition therefore builds on an existing relationship rather than establishing an entirely new partnership.

Circle has signed an agreement to acquire @tazapay, a cross-border payments company supporting businesses across 100+ markets.

For businesses, the combination could eventually support broader payment coverage, additional settlement corridors and greater access to stablecoin-based international transfers. It may also help reduce dependence on traditional banking routes that can involve longer processing times and limited operating hours.

Together, the CCTP enhancements and Tazapay acquisition demonstrate Circle’s broader effort to position USDC and stablecoin infrastructure as practical rails for global commerce rather than tools limited to crypto markets.

The acquisition is expected to close in 2027, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, including approval from the Monetary Authority of Singapore. Until completion, Tazapay is expected to continue operating under its existing arrangements.

Circle’s latest developments therefore point toward an increasingly integrated payments strategy in which stablecoin transfers, cross-chain infrastructure, local payout networks and traditional financial institutions operate within a broader global settlement ecosystem.
