Solana and MoneyGram Target Faster Cross-Border Payments

Solana has announced a strategic partnership with MoneyGram aimed at using blockchain infrastructure to improve cross-border payments, adding another major financial-services use case to the network’s expanding ecosystem.

The collaboration is expected to leverage Solana’s low transaction costs and near-instant settlement capabilities to make international money transfers faster and more efficient. MoneyGram, a major participant in the global remittance industry, is exploring how blockchain technology can improve its existing payment services as financial companies increasingly assess digital assets for mainstream applications.

Solana and MoneyGram Focus on Payment Efficiency

The partnership is expected to streamline cross-border transactions by using Solana’s blockchain infrastructure to reduce costs and settlement times associated with conventional payment systems.

Traditional international transfers can involve multiple intermediaries and may require additional processing before funds reach their destination. Blockchain-based settlement could potentially reduce some of those frictions by enabling transactions to move directly across digital infrastructure.

The primary objective of the Solana-MoneyGram collaboration is to develop more efficient cross-border payment infrastructure by combining MoneyGram’s established remittance network with Solana’s low-cost and fast blockchain settlement capabilities.

The partnership also highlights the growing role of stablecoins in digital payments. Stablecoins can provide a blockchain-based representation of value while reducing some of the volatility associated with other cryptocurrencies, making them potentially useful for international settlement and payment applications.

Anthony Soohoo is expected to discuss the approach at the upcoming Breakpoint event, highlighting the companies’ focus on developing practical blockchain applications for financial services.

Traditional Finance Moves Further Onchain

The MoneyGram collaboration comes as Solana continues expanding beyond cryptocurrency trading into financial infrastructure and tokenized assets.

Solana is known for its high transaction throughput, scalability, and comparatively low transaction costs. Those characteristics have made the network attractive for applications requiring frequent transactions and rapid settlement.

MoneyGram’s involvement represents another example of an established financial-services company exploring blockchain technology to improve its offerings. If the initiative successfully demonstrates lower costs and faster settlement, it could provide a model for broader adoption of blockchain-based payment systems.

The development also comes as financial institutions increasingly examine stablecoins as tools for transferring and settling value globally. Their potential to operate continuously on blockchain networks could provide payment companies with an alternative infrastructure layer for international transactions.

Nike Expands Solana’s Tokenized Equity Market

Solana’s expansion into financial infrastructure is also being reflected in its growing tokenized-equity sector. Nike has entered the Solana ecosystem through the Sunrise initiative, bringing tokenized exposure to the sportswear company’s shares onto the blockchain.

The NKE token was issued by Backpack Securities and is available through Sunrise and several applications operating across Solana. The launch provides crypto-native investors with another route to gain exposure to traditional equity markets while keeping trading and settlement connected to blockchain infrastructure.

The Nike launch strengthens Solana’s position in tokenized real-world assets by bringing a globally recognized public company onto a blockchain-based financial market.

According to the report, tokenized-equity supply on Solana reached a weekly record of $465 million in August, while Raydium exceeded $4 billion in cumulative tokenized-stock trading volume.

Backpack Securities has also expanded its Sunrise listings to include companies such as SpaceX, Micron, SanDisk, Robinhood and Intel. Some of these tokenized securities support trading beyond conventional stock-market hours, further demonstrating how blockchain infrastructure could broaden access to financial markets.

Solana Builds a Broader Financial Infrastructure

The MoneyGram partnership and Nike listing point to two complementary areas of Solana’s expansion: blockchain-based payments and tokenized traditional assets.

For MoneyGram, the collaboration could provide access to faster settlement infrastructure and potentially lower transaction costs. For investors, tokenized equities can connect familiar financial assets with blockchain-based trading environments.

Together, the developments show Solana positioning its network as infrastructure for a broader digital financial system, covering cross-border payments, stablecoin settlement and tokenized securities alongside conventional cryptocurrency applications.

The next stage will depend on how effectively these initiatives translate blockchain capabilities into real-world usage. Transaction speed, payment costs, regulatory developments, and user adoption are likely to remain key factors as Solana seeks a larger role in global financial infrastructure.
