European Blockchain Skills Cooperation Network (EBSCN)

The blockchain industry faces a substantial skills gap, with companies increasingly challenged in finding skilled professionals, particularly for technical positions. This gap has highlighted the urgency of upskilling and education as fundamental to blockchain’s future growth and success. Addressing this need, CHAISE, an organization dedicated to bridging the blockchain skills divide across Europe, is now evolving from its role as a dedicated skills initiative into a broader industry alliance.

CHAISE, which launched four years ago, has been a prominent entity in the European blockchain space, aiming to close the skills mismatch within the region. Its efforts have directly impacted thousands of individuals across 13 countries, providing a steady talent pipeline for numerous companies in the blockchain field. As interest in blockchain continues to grow across various sectors, CHAISE has decided to rebrand and expand its mission. In its latest development, CHAISE has transitioned into the European Blockchain Skills Cooperation Network (EBSCN), marking its shift from a grant-dependent organization to an independent, sustainable industry alliance.

With this transition, EBSCN envisions a stronger coalition of public authorities, industry leaders, and educational institutions dedicated to developing effective training solutions and forging solid partnerships across the blockchain landscape. The change reflects the network’s ambition to provide scalable educational solutions and contribute to a comprehensive skills framework to meet Europe’s blockchain demands. EBSCN intends to go beyond traditional blockchain training, embracing other emerging technologies that intersect with blockchain, such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and the Internet of Things (IoT). This expanded focus underlines EBSCN’s mission to enable Europe to maintain a competitive edge in blockchain innovation by cultivating a workforce equipped with advanced digital competencies.

IOTA and EBSCN: Strengthening Blockchain and Web3 Development

CHAISE’s long-time partner, IOTA, has shown strong support for this transition. IOTA, a notable player within the European blockchain ecosystem, publicly endorsed the rebranding to EBSCN and pledged its ongoing collaboration with the new network. Known for its initiatives in decentralized technologies, IOTA has been involved in numerous European blockchain projects, including its recent participation in the European Blockchain Sandbox Initiative (EBSI), launched by the European Commission to support distributed ledger technology (DLT) applications within the European market. This initiative allows IOTA to pursue decentralized identity solutions and Know Your Customer (KYC) protocols as part of the broader Web3 framework, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and gaining valuable regulatory insights before introducing its products to the market.

IOTA’s contributions to Europe’s blockchain ecosystem extend further through its participation in the European Blockchain Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCP), a project focused on creating digital product passports. This involvement demonstrates IOTA’s commitment to building sustainable and verifiable blockchain solutions, further underscoring its collaboration with organizations like EBSCN that share similar goals of fostering a knowledgeable and skilled workforce in blockchain and adjacent technologies.

The Future of Blockchain Skills Development in Europe

EBSCN’s restructured role signals an evolving approach to skills development within Europe’s digital landscape. By uniting key stakeholders in the public and private sectors, EBSCN aims to cultivate a resilient network that fosters innovation and advances Europe’s competitiveness in blockchain and other emerging tech sectors. The network’s forward-looking agenda involves establishing practical and accessible educational resources while enhancing collaboration across borders to meet the industry’s evolving demands.

As the demand for blockchain solutions grows, EBSCN’s alliance-based model represents a significant step toward creating a sustainable and adaptable skills framework. By transitioning from a grant-reliant entity to a cooperative network, EBSCN is positioned to tackle the current skills deficit head-on while preparing Europe’s workforce for the next generation of digital technologies. In widening its focus to incorporate fields like AI, cybersecurity, and IoT, EBSCN reflects a proactive approach to skill-building that anticipates the convergence of blockchain with other transformative technologies.

EBSCN’s partnership with entities like IOTA further strengthens its mission to support blockchain adoption and digital transformation across Europe. Together, these organizations are committed to providing the educational resources and collaborative frameworks necessary to close Europe’s blockchain skills gap and, by extension, establish a stronger foundation for technological growth and innovation. Through these partnerships and its expanded scope, EBSCN hopes to address the rising demand for skilled professionals in blockchain, empowering Europe to remain competitive in the global technology arena.
