Immutable has announced a strategic partnership with GAMEDIA, a Dutch gaming studio with nearly two decades of industry experience. The collaboration reflects a growing trend of established Web2 gaming firms exploring Web3 technologies to expand their reach and tap into blockchain-powered opportunities.
According to Immutable, GAMEDIA will launch a new title on Immutable Play in 2025. The studio, which has released several recent games across platforms including PlayStation 5, PC, Steam, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, is expected to leverage Immutable’s expertise to make its mark in the blockchain gaming space. GAMEDIA’s chief executive, Dittmar Tukker, who began his career in 1998 with Lost Boy Games before it evolved into Guerrilla Games, brings long-standing experience from a studio known for franchises like Killzone and Horizon.
Immutable’s Drive to Bridge Web2 and Web3
The partnership is one of several moves by Immutable aimed at bridging the gap between traditional gaming and blockchain-powered ecosystems. The company has already worked with major industry names, including Ubisoft, with whom it is collaborating to relaunch the Might & Magic franchise as a free-to-play trading card game featuring optional NFT integrations. Immutable is also reviving the iconic Habbo Hotel as Habbo X on its network, signaling its push to integrate popular gaming IPs into Web3 environments.
Immutable’s co-founder, Robbie Ferguson, has highlighted that Web2 studios are beginning to place greater trust in Web3 solutions, recognizing the potential to enhance both player engagement and game economics. This broader shift is drawing established developers toward decentralized models, and partnerships such as the one with GAMEDIA serve as an example of how the industry is evolving.

Spider Tanks and GAMEDIA’s Web3 History
GAMEDIA first stepped into Web3 gaming in 2021 with Spider Tanks, an arena brawler that allowed players to battle with mechanical spider-like machines. The game introduced optional NFT features, where tank parts such as weapons and armor were represented on-chain, alongside a native earnable cryptocurrency. Initially hosted on GalaChain, Spider Tanks faced challenges when GAMEDIA expressed dissatisfaction with Gala’s internal structure, partnerships, and direction. These issues led GAMEDIA to reduce investment in the game.
The situation escalated as Gala pursued legal action and even attempted to claim ownership of the Spider Tanks intellectual property. In 2024, Gala lost the dispute, leaving the project in limbo. For a time, Spider Tanks stalled, with little communication from the developers. However, in late 2024, GAMEDIA hinted at a revival through posts on X, including one thanking Immutable for visiting their offices. By February, the studio further signaled alignment with Immutable by resharing content from Ferguson, fueling speculation about the game’s potential migration.
Signs of a Return and Strategic Alignment
With no new projects announced by GAMEDIA, industry watchers believe Spider Tanks may resurface under Immutable’s network. Such a move would align with the growing number of games shifting to Immutable’s ecosystem, attracted by its infrastructure tailored for NFTs, scalability, and player-focused design.
The partnership positions both companies to capitalize on the convergence of Web2 and Web3, with Immutable providing the technological foundation and GAMEDIA bringing creative expertise from years of traditional game development. As Web3 adoption accelerates, collaborations like this one illustrate how established studios are re-entering blockchain gaming, potentially breathing new life into titles such as Spider Tanks while paving the way for future releases.
