Injective Expands Blockchain with Dual EVM and Cosmos Execution

New upgrade enables Ethereum and Cosmos dApps to run side by side on one chain

Injective, a layer-1 blockchain network, has introduced a major upgrade that integrates the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) directly into its architecture, transforming the platform into a dual-execution environment. The update allows Ethereum-based applications to operate natively on the same blockchain as Injective’s existing Cosmos WebAssembly (WASM) applications, creating a unified, multi-virtual-machine ecosystem.

A major protocol evolution

The announcement, made on November 11, revealed that the integration of EVM into Injective’s core state machine marks one of the most significant milestones in the network’s evolution. Unlike standard interoperability bridges that merely connect blockchains, this upgrade embeds Ethereum compatibility at a protocol level, enabling seamless execution of both Ethereum smart contracts and Cosmos-native dApps in a single, synchronized environment.

The launch coincided with more than 30 decentralized applications and infrastructure providers going live on the network simultaneously, signaling strong early adoption from developers and ecosystem partners. Injective described this development as a step toward realizing its “MultiVM” vision, where multiple virtual machines, including future support for Solana’s runtime, will coexist within one blockchain infrastructure. The company suggested that combining EVM and WASM flexibility with Injective’s financial modules would open new possibilities for DeFi innovation.

Solving DeFi fragmentation and bridging risks

Injective’s architectural shift aims to address persistent challenges within decentralized finance, particularly ecosystem fragmentation and inefficient cross-chain liquidity. Traditionally, DeFi platforms have relied on external bridges to transfer assets across different blockchains, a process that often introduces security vulnerabilities and operational friction.

With Injective’s new dual-execution model, applications built on Ethereum and Cosmos can now interact directly through a shared liquidity layer. This integration allows assets and data to move natively within the network, reducing dependency on third-party bridges and improving both safety and speed for users.

Developers benefit from the system’s compatibility with Ethereum’s established development tools, such as Hardhat and Foundry, lowering the learning curve for teams already proficient in Solidity. Additionally, Injective’s “plug-and-play” financial modules provide ready-made components for creating sophisticated financial products like derivatives, lending protocols, and synthetic assets, reducing time to market for new DeFi projects.

Today, the Injective Era begins.

Enhancing liquidity and user experience

The network’s central limit order book (CLOB) module ensures that all applications have immediate access to deep liquidity from launch. This feature addresses the “cold start” problem that has hindered many early-stage DeFi projects by offering built-in liquidity and resistance to miner extractable value (MEV).

The Injective era has begun.

Injective’s introduction of a MultiVM Token Standard (MTS) further unifies the ecosystem by providing a consistent token representation across all dApps on the network. This eliminates the confusion caused by multiple wrapped or bridged token versions, allowing complex cross-application transactions to execute atomically while maintaining security and data integrity.

Expanding financial possibilities

For end users, the update brings an expanded selection of decentralized financial services within a single chain. Users can now access a range of applications, including lending and borrowing platforms, tokenized real-world asset markets, and advanced derivatives, without relying on external bridges or networks.

All these transactions benefit from Injective’s high-performance framework, which delivers sub-second transaction finality and fees that are only a fraction of a cent. The platform’s enhanced structure also paves the way for new Web3 financial products that combine the programmability of Ethereum with the scalability and efficiency of Cosmos technology.

With this upgrade, Injective positions itself as one of the few blockchain ecosystems capable of natively running multiple virtual machines in harmony. The integration signifies a broader industry shift toward interoperability, where blockchain networks are no longer isolated silos but interconnected environments supporting diverse execution standards.
