Monad API Hub Brings Pay-Per-Request Blockchain Data Access

Developers and AI Agents Can Access 66 Data Services Without Subscriptions

Monad API Hub has launched a pay-per-request model that gives developers and AI agents access to 66 blockchain data, search, and artificial intelligence services without requiring accounts, subscriptions, or conventional API keys.

The platform uses USDC, a dollar-pegged stablecoin, to settle payments directly on the Monad blockchain. Powered by the x402 v2 protocol, each API request is treated as a small on-chain transaction, allowing users to pay only for the services they consume rather than committing to recurring plans.

The new model is designed to reduce several common barriers associated with accessing application programming interfaces. Developers traditionally need to create accounts, obtain and manage API credentials, monitor subscription plans, and maintain billing arrangements before using data services. Monad API Hub instead aims to make access available through individual payments tied directly to API requests.

Prices on the platform range from $0.01 to $7.50 per call, depending on the service and the data or functionality requested.

x402 Enables Automated Microtransactions

The API Hub relies on the x402 v2 protocol to facilitate payments for individual requests. Under this approach, an API call can trigger a payment that is settled on-chain, creating a direct connection between service consumption and payment.

Monad API Hub is designed to let developers and AI agents access 66 blockchain data and AI services on a pay-per-request basis, using USDC payments on Monad without requiring API keys or subscriptions.

The structure could be particularly relevant for AI agents, which increasingly need access to external data and software services to perform tasks autonomously. A pay-per-request system allows such agents to purchase individual data services as needed instead of relying on long-term accounts or manually managed credentials.

For developers, the model could also make experimentation easier by reducing the need to commit to a subscription before determining whether a particular API is useful for an application.

Monad Seeks Standardized Blockchain Payments

The launch forms part of Monad’s broader effort to establish a standardized payment mechanism for API services across blockchain networks. Instead of treating data access and payment as separate processes, the model connects the two through programmable, on-chain transactions.

This approach differs from subscription-based infrastructure commonly used by blockchain data providers. Services such as Dune Analytics and The Graph have traditionally offered access through structured plans and developer-oriented infrastructure, while Monad’s model emphasizes direct payment for individual requests.

The pay-per-use structure could be particularly useful for applications with irregular demand. Developers building prototypes, automated trading systems, analytics tools or AI applications may not need a fixed number of API calls every month. Paying for individual requests could allow these users to align costs more closely with actual usage.

Lower Barriers for Developers and AI Systems

Traditional API infrastructure can require multiple steps before an application can retrieve data, including account creation, authentication, key storage and billing configuration. Removing those requirements could simplify integrations, particularly for software that needs to access multiple services dynamically.

The API Hub’s payment model could also give autonomous AI agents a direct mechanism for purchasing data and computational services, reducing dependence on human-managed accounts and API credentials.

The use of USDC provides a stable-denominated payment unit, while settlement on Monad enables the individual transactions to be processed through blockchain infrastructure.

Monad API Hub brings data access, search capabilities, and AI services into a single platform, with users able to select services and pay according to their actual consumption. The company’s longer-term objective is to encourage a common framework for pay-per-request transactions across blockchain-based applications.

As blockchain infrastructure becomes increasingly integrated with AI systems and automated software, Monad’s approach reflects a broader shift toward machine-to-machine payments. If adopted more widely, such systems could allow software agents to independently purchase data and other digital services whenever required, without relying on traditional subscription and account-management models.
